Back To Basics: Smudging
What is Smudgin?
To put it simply, Smudging is the practice of clearing negative energies from a person or place. This is most commonly done through the burning or certain plants or incense. Some of the more commonly used plants for burning include: White Sage, Palo Santo, Cedarwood and assorted sweetgrass.
Burning Sage or Palo Santo is most commonly done when performing rituals or ceremonies while burning incense is more common for clearing houses or other spaces of negative energy. Though it is also fairly common to use different blends of essential oils to clear a space as to avoid the use of smoke, however the use of smoke is the more traditional way.
I personally prefer the use of white sage or incense sticks. My favorite incense being the Native Soul Collection from Green Tree products. Unfortunately I wasn't able to locate any good online sellers who had it in stock but if you ever find some at the store, be sure to snatch it up.
