Back To Basics: The Four Corners
The Four Corners: What are they?
The term "Four Corners" refers to the four cardinal directions of North, South, East and West. Each one is associated with a different natural element of magic. When one uses the term "calling corners" they mean calling upon the elemental energies of the four directions to create a magic work space.
East
East is the direction associated with the Wind. It is the Eastern winds that blow through our minds striking inspiration and whispering ancient secrets into our ears. The East is also associated with the color yellow to represent the winds. This is typically the first corner called when casting a circle.
South
Next is the South, which is associated with Fire. The fires of the south build up with great passion and fury, lighting a fire within our souls. South is traditionally the second corner called when casting a circle and is associated with the colors red and orange.
West
West is the way of the Water. The energies of the west flow through us with peace and reverence carrying to love of the moon goddess. Like water, those who strongly connect with western energies tend to be strongly effected by the moon and prefer shades of blue and often purple. West is most commonly the third corner to be called.
North
North is the Cardinal of the Earth and is represented by green. The energies of the North are sturdy and nurturing like the Earth mother and is typically the last cardinal to be called. Many who associated with the North are often greatly attuned with the natural energies.
Center
When calling the four corners, it is common to call forth the shining Center Spirit to bind them together until your work is completed. The center is connected to the astral energies and represented by colors like purple. Center spirit is our very will and reflect our own spiritual power.
